Dark Money Group Linked to Schumer Takes Aim at GOP Candidate
Political advertisements aimed at Montana GOP Senate candidate Tim Sheehy are being financed by Majority Forward, a nonprofit organization linked to Senate Majority PAC, a group affiliated with Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, who has consistently denounced fundraising with unknown sources of money, as reported by the Washington Examiner.
This information emerged a week after Senate Republicans introduced a bill designed to prevent foreign individuals from improperly influencing American elections, in response to a report by Americans for Public Trust detailing how a Swiss billionaire allegedly channeled $243 million into a liberal dark money network that spent $97.6 million in various election campaigns in Michigan, Ohio, Colorado, and Nevada.
Fox News reported that Schumer has received millions of dollars in undisclosed donations.
Although the contributors to Majority Forward remain undisclosed, Fox revealed last year that the organization received $276.1 million in anonymous donations between July 2019 and June 2022. Its primary beneficiary is the Senate Majority PAC, which focuses on electing Democratic candidates to the Senate and has close ties to Schumer.
In January, the Huffington Post uncovered the relationship between Last Best Place, a recently established super PAC, and Senate Majority PAC. Majority Forward is the sole funder of Last Best Place, which has spent nearly $6 million on ads targeting Sheehy.
The Post was informed by Senate Majority PAC that they were responsible for the substantial TV advertising campaign against Sheehy.
“Majority Forward, with its nine-figure revenues, clearly demonstrates that the Left’s concerns about ‘dark money’ are simply a convenient way to vilify individuals who express differing views,” remarked Parker Thayer, an investigative researcher with the conservative Capital Research Center group, to the Examiner.
Jeff Clements, the CEO of American Promise, a group advocating for limitations on certain election expenditures, told the Examiner: “The unfortunate truth is that there are tens of millions of dollars flowing into states like Montana from progressive billionaires outside the state, at the direction of party leaders like Sen. Chuck Schumer.”
