David Schoen Suggests Trump Could Pursue Relocation of Georgia Case, Informs Newsmax
Prominent criminal defense lawyer David Schoen suggests that former President Donald Trump may seek to move any potential charges against him by a Georgia grand jury to federal court. The grand jury was convened by Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis, a Democrat, and would be the second state indictment against Trump, following one issued by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg on allegations of hush money payments to Stormy Daniels. Trump is also facing two federal indictments from the Department of Justice. Schoen believes that moving the Georgia case to federal court would provide a “completely different dynamic” compared to the New York case, as there is no question that Trump was acting in relation to the election. Schoen suggests that Trump would argue that he had an obligation under the Constitution to take steps regarding the election. However, another prominent defense lawyer, Randy Zelin, points out that a drawback to moving the case to federal court would be that Trump would have to appear in Washington, D.C., which he may not prefer. Schoen, who was part of Trump’s legal team during his second impeachment trial, describes Trump as a “terrific client” who is focused on addressing charges and knows how to appeal to a jury.
