Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin Cancels Trip to South Korea Amid Martial Law Crisis – One America News Network

In light of South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol’s unsuccessful attempt to impose martial law this past week, two U.S. sources informed Reuters on Thursday that Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin has now canceled his planned visit to South Korea.

An unnamed official revealed that preparations had been underway for the upcoming trip, but it was concluded that this was not the appropriate time for such a visit.
This official further noted that the decision regarding travel adjustments has already been conveyed to South Korean officials.
Consequently, by the time President-elect Donald Trump assumes office on January 20th, Austin will have already resigned from his position.
On Tuesday, Yoon declared martial law to consolidate his power, banning political activities he deemed unlawful and censoring specific media narratives.
The declaration caused significant upheaval and widespread concern among South Korea’s international allies, sparking protests and civil unrest across the country.
Moreover, South Korea’s defense minister, who initially proposed the martial law, has resigned amid the turmoil.
On Saturday, Parliament is expected to vote on an impeachment resolution aimed directly at Yoon, with further mass demonstrations anticipated to follow.
The leader of Yoon’s political party asserted on Friday that the president’s constitutional powers should be suspended due to his “serious risk of extreme actions, such as attempting to impose martial law again, which could jeopardize the Republic of Korea and its citizens.”
