Demands for Funding Bill Announced by the Freedom Caucus
The conservative House Freedom Caucus has announced that it will oppose any short-term government funding bill that does not include measures related to border policy and fails to address the Department of Justice and so-called “woke” military policies. The stance of the hardline caucus puts pressure on House GOP leaders who need their support to pass party-line measures. The caucus is demanding that any spending measure target the border, the “weaponization” of the DOJ and FBI, and “woke” Pentagon policies. They also want the inclusion of the House-passed “Secure the Border Act of 2023”. The Freedom Caucus opposes the use of continuing resolutions and vows to prevent the passage of a budget-busting omnibus spending bill. They also oppose President Biden’s request for additional funding to assist Ukraine.
