Democratic Colorado Governor Shows Support for Student’s Gadsden Flag Patch
Colorado Gov. Jared Polis defended a student’s right to display a Gadsden flag patch on his backpack after the student was removed from school for it. The school initially claimed the flag was racist and had origins in slavery, but it was actually used during the Revolutionary War as a symbol of unity. Polis stated that students’ wearing of political symbols should be encouraged, as it enriches discussion and promotes free speech. The school later reversed its decision and allowed the student to return with the flag patch.
