Democratic Pollster: Biden’s Support Declining Monthly
President Joe Biden is “losing ground every month” in the national polls mostly due to inflation, a Democrat pollster told CNN.
Stanley Greenberg, appearing Monday on CNN’s “Inside Politics,” said Biden’s team should focus on halting his continuing falling job approval numbers by telling voters how he plans to deal with rising prices.
“When your approval with your base is lower than … your opponent, you know … you need a new start,” Greenberg said. “What matters [to voters] is how many months people have been struggling to deal with inflation, and each month they get madder and madder about it as long as their wages are trailing prices.”
Greenberg, co-founder of Democracy Corps, summarized Biden’s problem.
“They are losing ground every month,” Greenberg said.
Biden’s job approval rating hit an all-time low of 34%, according to Monmouth University survey results released Monday. The poll also found that 68% disapprove of how he is dealing with inflation.
A CNBC/SurveyMonkey survey last month found that Biden’s message about the effectiveness of Bidenomics is falling flat among small business owners nationwide. A total of 68% disapproved of Biden’s performance, with 56% strongly disapproving.
Greenberg said the Biden campaign should tell voters that it wants to enact an income tax credit, cut drug prices, and lower health costs to help ease inflation.
“What the president currently is doing is still talking about progress,” Greenberg said. “And you can’t talk about progress when three-quarters of the country think we’re on the wrong track. So you have to stop on the notion that we’re making progress. You have to get where people are, and where they are is on the rising prices.
“They need to stop with their own voters and say, We get it. If inflation is the biggest problem, we get it. We know. We know what you’ve been through. We’re in touch with that. Here’s what we’re dealing with it.”
The New York Times reported this month that Greenberg summarized the results of a battleground states survey as being “grim” for Biden.
