Democratic Representative Jared Moskowitz has made history by becoming the first Democrat to join the Congressional “Delivering Outstanding Government Efficiency” (DOGE) Caucus. This Republican-led group, formed under President-elect Donald Trump, aims to collaborate with Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy’s “Department of Government Efficiency,” often referred to as DOGE.

“I am proud to announce my membership in the Congressional DOGE Caucus today, as I firmly believe that streamlining government operations and cutting wasteful spending should transcend party lines,” Moskowitz (D-Fla.) remarked on Tuesday. “I am committed to finding methods to reorganize our government to better serve the American people.”
Moskowitz joins a growing number of Democrats supporting bipartisan initiatives aimed at reducing government inefficiencies. This movement has garnered backing from notable figures, including independent Senator Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) and Democratic Representative Ro Khanna (D-Calif.).
“Elon Musk is correct,” Sanders articulated in a recent post on X. “The Pentagon, which operates with an $885 billion budget, has failed its audit for the seventh consecutive time. It has lost track of vast amounts of money. Last year, only 13 senators opposed the Military Industrial Complex and a defense budget riddled with waste and fraud. This needs to change.”
The DOGE Caucus is spearheaded by Representatives Aaron Bean (F-Fla.) and Pete Sessions (R-Texas), along with Iowa Senator Joni Ernst (R-Iowa). These three leaders are accountable to Musk and Ramaswamy.
Moskowitz expressed his intention to address inefficiencies within the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and suggested that the U.S. Secret Service and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) should function independently from DHS.
“The Caucus must examine the bureaucracy that DHS has turned into and make recommendations to establish the Secret Service and FEMA as independent federal entities that report directly to the White House,” Moskowitz stated. “It is impractical to have 22 agencies falling under one department. I look forward to collaborating with my colleagues in a bipartisan effort to separate FEMA and the Secret Service from DHS.”
Nonetheless, Moskowitz acknowledged that there would be areas of disagreement between him and Elon Musk’s team, asserting he would be “a strong voice voting against those issues.”
He further stated, “We need to engage in conversations where they are happening. Ignoring these discussions isn’t a sustainable approach to governance.”
“Democrats should not shy away from this dialogue. I believe there are significant opportunities to enhance government efficiency, and I am determined to pursue that,” Moskowitz added.
