Dershowitz Calls Georgia Trump Indictment “Terrible” in Newsmax Interview
Alan Dershowitz, former Harvard Law School professor, criticized the indictment of former President Donald Trump and 18 of his allies using a Racketeer Influence Corrupt Organization statute to charge them with interfering in the 2020 election. Dershowitz called the indictment “awful” and compared it to an exam answer in law school. He also claimed that the release of the charging document before the grand jury’s vote was a “Freudian leak” and suggested that the decision to indict had already been made by the prosecutor. Dershowitz stated that the indictment should be dismissed but believes it is unlikely to happen. He suggested that some defendants may have the option to move the trial to federal court, but only if they were federal officials at the time of the alleged crime and if the crime fell within their duty and authority. Dershowitz predicts that Trump may be convicted in the four criminal cases he is currently facing due to the makeup of the jury pool but doubts he will serve jail time. He believes Trump will be granted bail pending appeal, and the appellate court will eventually reverse the conviction.
