Dershowitz Tells Newsmax: Democrats Had Three Goals in Trump Trial
According to legal scholar Alan Dershowitz speaking to Newsmax on Tuesday, Democrats had three objectives in the Manhattan criminal trial involving former President Donald Trump.
Trump, the presumed 2024 Republican presidential candidate, faced charges for falsifying business records to conceal a payment to Stormy Daniels to keep her quiet about an alleged affair.
“The trial’s purpose is three-fold,” explained Dershowitz, a retired Harvard Law School professor, on “National Report.” “Firstly, to hastily convict him before the election, even though it will likely be overturned afterward. Secondly, to impose a gag order on him, and thirdly, to keep him tied up in court, preventing him from campaigning, and these goals may be achieved.
“This is blatant election interference, and every American, regardless of political affiliation, should be concerned about how the legal system is being manipulated and misused for partisan purposes.”
During his testimony on Monday, former Trump lawyer Michael Cohen admitted to secretly recording Trump.
“It’s unethical,” Dershowitz told co-hosts Shaun Kraisman and Emma Rechenberg. “It violates the professional responsibility code. Furthermore, Cohen lied about the reason for recording.”
“Despite Cohen’s justifications for recording Trump, it is unethical to record a client without their knowledge, even if done to protect them.
“The jury is unlikely to believe Cohen’s story about the recording, and if they suspect he lied, it could impact his credibility significantly.
“I believe the jury, particularly the lawyers on it, will question his reasoning for making an unethical decision to record his client.
