Dershowitz Tells Newsmax: GOP Allegations Against Biden Would Be Tit-For-Tat
Harvard University professor emeritus Alan Dershowitz criticized the potential criminal referrals over impeachment against President Joe Biden, labeling it as a “tit-for-tat weaponization of the criminal justice system” by Republicans in response to the charges and impeachments brought against former President Donald Trump.
Dershowitz made these comments on Newsmax’s “National Report” after House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer hinted at the possibility of criminal referrals rather than articles of impeachment in the investigation against Biden.
According to Dershowitz, the claims against Biden lack a legitimate basis for impeachment, as he argued that impeachment requires specific criminal behavior such as treason, bribery, or other high crimes and misdemeanors. He criticized Republicans for changing their stance on the issue, calling it hypocritical.
Instead of pursuing impeachment, Republicans are now aiming for criminal charges against Biden, but Dershowitz pointed out that the statute of limitations may have expired on most of the alleged offenses.
Dershowitz emphasized that both parties should refrain from weaponizing the criminal justice system for political purposes, as seen in the case of former Trump adviser Peter Navarro’s recent prison sentence for contempt of Congress.
