Dershowitz tells Newsmax that Trump is the ‘Poster Child’ for Rights Denial

Harvard Law professor emeritus Alan Dershowitz said on Newsmax on Tuesday that former President Donald Trump is being unfairly targeted and used as an example to deny constitutional rights, with the legal system being weaponized to prevent him from returning to the White House.

Dershowitz expressed his concerns about the weaponization of the legal system against political opponents, referring to the multiple indictments and court rulings Trump is contending with, including the significant judgment in his New York civil fraud case.

He emphasized that if Trump was not a presidential candidate, none of these legal actions would be taking place, making it clear that the intention is to obstruct him from becoming president again.

Regarding the upcoming presidential election, Dershowitz stressed the importance of the American public being able to accept the outcome but raised concerns about potential interference and bias affecting the election’s legitimacy.

Commenting on the massive judgment against Trump in the New York civil fraud case, Dershowitz argued that it violates the Eighth Amendment’s prohibition against excessive fines and denies Trump due process.

He criticized the biased legal environment in liberal states and suggested that Trump can only receive a fair trial in Florida due to the widespread animosity towards him in other jurisdictions.

In addition, Dershowitz condemned the imprisonment of former Trump White House official Peter Navarro and labeled the Supreme Court’s decision not to stay Navarro’s sentence pending appeal as “outrageous.”
