DeSantis’ Appointees Request Judge to Dismiss Disney Case Without Trial
Members of the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District, appointed by Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, are requesting a judge to rule without trial in their favor against Disney. The case stems from DeSantis’ takeover of a board that oversees Walt Disney World, as retaliation for the company’s opposition to a state law banning classroom lessons on sexual orientation and gender identity. In response, Disney filed a federal lawsuit alleging violation of its free speech rights. In the state court case, DeSantis’ appointees accuse Disney of stripping them of powers unlawfully. The judge previously refused Disney’s request to dismiss the lawsuit. DeSantis has used his feud with Disney as a talking point in his run for the 2024 GOP presidential nomination.
