DeSantis Campaign Dismisses Staff Member for Displaying Video Containing Nazi Symbol

A staff member of Florida GOP Governor Ron DeSantis’ presidential campaign was fired after including Nazi imagery in a campaign video. The video featured a Nazi symbol, a Sonnenrad, meshed onto DeSantis’ face inside Florida’s state seal. The video was reportedly shared on a pro-DeSantis Twitter account and retweeted by the fired staff member, Nate Hochman. The governor’s campaign confirmed the dismissal of Hochman and announced that 38 staffers were laid off following a comprehensive review of their organization.

It is important to note that the use of Nazi imagery is highly controversial and offensive due to the association with anti-Semitism, hatred, and genocide during World War II. The inclusion of such imagery in a campaign video is seen as a serious lapse in judgment and raises concerns about the campaign’s values and messaging. The dismissal of the staff member reflects the campaign’s efforts to distance itself from any association with Nazi symbolism. Overall, this incident highlights the importance of careful vetting and oversight of campaign materials to avoid controversy and maintain a positive public image.
