DeSantis Criticizes Biden’s Iran Strategy as One of His Worst Policy Errors
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis criticized President Joe Biden for not denouncing Iran’s role in promoting terrorism in the Middle East and stated that his approach to the terrorist nation “is one of the worst parts” of White House foreign policy.
DeSantis made these remarks during a town hall with Newsmax on Monday in Urbandale, Iowa.
DeSantis was asked about his opinion on the Biden administration releasing billions of dollars to Iran.
“What Biden has done is given more power to an enemy,” DeSantis told Newsmax. “He did this knowingly because he believes he can somehow strike a deal with them. This is not possible. Their ideology is opposed to both Israel and the United States.”
DeSantis recounted his time in the military when Iran-backed militias killed hundreds of American soldiers in the region.
“Iran has caused the deaths of a large number of American soldiers,” he said, before addressing another event backed by Iran: the attack on Israel on Oct. 7.
“The Hamas attack would not have happened if [Biden] had cut off Iran’s funding like they should have,” DeSantis said. “This is one of the worst parts of Biden’s foreign policy. Even now, he refuses to call out Iran for their role in promoting terrorism in the Middle East.”
Newsmax host Eric Bolling asked the governor why.
“It goes back to Obama,” DeSantis said. “Obama had this idea that somehow Iran’s dislike for us is our fault. He thinks it’s always America’s fault. They want to spread Islamic extremism around the world and they are determined to do so and will never want to get along with the United States.”
DeSantis said that the key to defeating Iran is economic pressure.
“We will apply financial pressure so that they do not have money flowing into the regime,” he said.
