DeSantis Dismisses Vice Presidential Role as Unattractive
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has stated that he has no interest in becoming former President Donald Trump’s running mate in the 2024 presidential election. In an interview with OutKick’s Clay Travis, DeSantis emphasized that his goal is to run for president, not to be someone’s vice president. He stated that he wants to beat President Joe Biden, reflect the values of Republican voters, and deliver on his promises. Despite polls showing Trump in the lead for the Republican nomination, with DeSantis being the second choice among party voters, DeSantis remains focused on winning the nomination and the general election. He reiterated that he is not seeking a cabinet position or a role as a TV contributor, but rather wants to be an executive who can take action and make things happen. This is not the first time DeSantis has expressed his disinterest in being Trump’s running mate, as he previously stated in March that he sees himself as more of a leader than a No. 2 guy. DeSantis believes he can accomplish more as the governor of Florida than as a vice president without any real authority.
