DeSantis Tells Newsmax: Trump’s Final Year in Office Was Detrimental to the Economy

Republican presidential candidate Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis took aim at front-runner former President Donald Trump on Newsmax, stating that his last year in the White House was bad for the United States economy.

During an appearance on “Sunday Agenda,” DeSantis, while stating that “for the first three years, the economy was good under Trump,” went on to add that in Trump’s last year in office, it “was a bad year for this country.”

“Those were decisions that were made to empower Anthony Fauci. When states like Florida were pulling the country out of lockdown, I was attacked by the White House for doing that by people on [Trump’s] staff, including Dr. Fauci.

“I also think that the spending that they did that last year — $4.2 trillion between March of 2020 and December of 2020 — that was a massive printing, and they basically just printed it out of thin air.”

During the governor’s interview, DeSantis also went on to say that Biden would be replaced before the end of the presidential election in November 2024.

“I think very likely there will be a different Democrat nominee, and I think Republicans have got to be prepared,” DeSantis said.
