Devon Archer Advised to Purchase Burner Phone by Hunter Biden
In the spring of 2014, Hunter Biden instructed his business partner, Devon Archer, to buy a burner phone, according to an email that is now raising questions about his business dealings. Just three days later, Archer met with then-Vice President Joe Biden in the White House, and one month later, Hunter Biden joined the board of Ukrainian natural gas company Burisma Holdings. It is unclear whether the burner phones were regularly used for business purposes, but a source familiar with Archer’s testimony before the House Oversight Committee stated that they were used for international conversations. This contradicts the fact that Hunter Biden’s abandoned laptop revealed he was using multiple private messaging apps, some of which were encrypted. The email to Archer also discussed the political and economic situation in Ukraine and Hunter Biden’s desire for the contract with Burisma to begin immediately. The “my guy” in the email appears to refer to Joe Biden, who visited Ukraine shortly after the email was sent. Hunter Biden also stressed that they would not directly intervene with policymakers and would adhere to US laws. Concerns about Hunter Biden’s business dealings with Burisma have been raised, especially in relation to his father’s pressure on Ukraine to remove a prosecutor. Archer claimed that Burisma’s owner pressured Hunter Biden to gain US support in ousting the prosecutor, but did not specify whether “DC” meant his father.
