Division Among Republican Voters in Texas Regarding Paxton’s Removal Revealed in Recent Poll
A recent University of Texas/Texas Politics Project poll shows that Republican voters in Texas are divided on whether Attorney General Ken Paxton should be removed from office. Paxton is currently facing an impeachment trial on charges of bribery, abuse of public trust, and obstruction of justice. Among registered GOP voters, 24% believe he should be removed, 32% disagree, and 43% are undecided. Overall, 47% of the 1,200 registered voters surveyed think Paxton should be removed, but this is largely influenced by the 71% of Democrats who hold that belief. Among independent voters, 42% support Paxton’s removal, and 44% are unsure. Paxton’s job approval rating also hit a low, with 27% approval and 46% disapproval. Additionally, Paxton previously faced felony charges for securities fraud in 2015. The margin of error for the survey is +/- 2.83%.
