DNC Names Gun Control Advocate David Hogg as New Vice Chair in Leadership Changes – One America News Network

David Hogg, a prominent advocate for gun control who gained notoriety following a tragic shooting at his Florida high school in 2018, has been appointed to a leading position in the Democratic National Committee (DNC).

As the youngest individual ever to hold the role of DNC vice chair, Hogg was elected by DNC members over the weekend, joining Representative Malcolm Kenyatta from Pennsylvania and Artie Blanco.
Additionally, Ken Martin, a long-time leader from the Minnesota Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party, has been chosen to serve as the chairman of the DNC.
“You have no right to a gun. You are not a militia. Discussions around your Second Amendment rights are essentially about a state’s right to maintain what is now the National Guard. The current interpretation of the Second Amendment is a farce perpetuated by the gun lobby for years,” Hogg expressed on X in February 2023.
Minnesota’s Governor Tim Walz, who was the Democratic Party’s unsuccessful vice presidential nominee in 2024, supported Hogg’s campaign for the DNC vice chair position.
Following the Parkland shooting in 2018, where he was a student, Hogg seized the moment to elevate his platform as a gun control advocate.
He went on to establish a social justice organization called “March For Our Lives,” dedicated to promoting “A future free of gun violence.”
Notably, some have pointed out that Hogg’s late father was a former FBI agent, which has led certain gun rights supporters to suggest he leveraged his father’s background for his activism.
There have also been accusations labeling Hogg as a “crisis actor” and a “grifter,” with some peers asserting they did not see him during the events of the shooting. This skepticism likely arose from Hogg’s comments in a CBS News documentary regarding his actions that day.
“On the day of the shooting, I grabbed my camera, hopped on my bike, and rode as quickly as I could three miles to the school to capture as much footage and conduct as many interviews as possible because I realized this could not be just another mass shooting,” Hogg recounted.
In June 2022, Hogg controversially claimed that former Florida GOP Senator Marco Rubio, now serving as the 72nd Secretary of State, was avoiding him because he “triggered” a negative response in him.
“Rubio’s staff told me I couldn’t meet with him or his team because I ‘trigger’ him. I simply want to have a conversation about preventing these tragedies. @marcorubio, please let’s discuss how we can come together on this issue,” Hogg tweeted.
Shortly after, many social media users ridiculed Hogg’s post, suggesting that Rubio’s reaction seemed far from typical for a politician and appeared insincere.
Rubio’s Chief of Staff, Michael Needham, quickly addressed Hogg’s statement.
“That’s not what was said,” Needham shot back. “Regarding your meeting, there was actually a 2 PM meeting planned, but since you appear to be leveraging this for self-promotion, it’s been canceled. The reporter who was working on your profile knows the meeting was legitimate because she was corresponding with our communications team about it yesterday. Please avoid lying — we can substantiate our claims.”
Hogg later removed the tweet, and it was widely speculated that Rubio’s office would not respond to him again or publicly confront his alleged falsehoods.
Furthermore, in August 2018, Hogg claimed that the “NRA is manipulating events to boost gun sales during a year of significantly low demand.” He faced immediate pushback and fact-checking following this assertion.
“People label us as snowflakes,” Hogg previously tweeted. “But what occurs when snowflakes unite and vote? It becomes an avalanche.”
Another notable statement from Hogg includes:
“Utilizing violence to achieve political power is deeply ingrained in imperialism, capitalism, and white supremacy. I refuse to accept that repeating this cycle of violence will create peaceful governance that serves and represents everyone,” Hogg previously stated.
Despite backlash from certain left-leaning figures on social media, Hogg later issued an apology, clarifying: “I want to make it clear that I am NOT trying to dictate how BIPOC [Black, Indigenous, and People of Color] should respond to state-directed violence; that is not my role as a white person to critique or direct BIPOC reactions to such violence.”
The Daily Wire reported that another “curious” aspect of Hogg’s journey is that he was admitted to Harvard University with an SAT score of just 1270, while the institution typically prefers applicants with scores around 1500.
“The bottom 25% of admitted students had an average score of 1460,” noted Business Insider.
Meanwhile, the Babylon Bee, a conservative satirical news site, seized the opportunity to critique the DNC regarding their decision to appoint Hogg as vice chair.
