DOJ Urges Judge to Enforce Steve Bannon’s Prison Sentence Following Rejected Appeal – One America News Network

Following an appeals court’s upholding of his conviction last week, federal prosecutors on Tuesday asked the judge presiding over the criminal contempt of Congress case involving former Trump strategist Steve Bannon to order the start of his four-month sentence.

The D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals’ definitive decision, which rejected Bannon’s appeal on all grounds, left prosecutors with no legal justification for Judge Carl Nichols to maintain the stay while Bannon serves his sentence.

“Consequently, there is no longer a ‘substantial question of law that is likely to result in a reversal or an order for a new trial,’” prosecutors said in their filing on Tuesday.

However, it’s not completely clear when the judge will rule on the request.

“I’m shocked they want to silence the voice of MAGA,” Bannon said sarcastically to ABC News regarding Tuesday’s news.

In October 2022, Bannon was found guilty of contempt and given a four-month prison sentence. However, Nichols consented to a postponement of the prison term while Bannon filed an appeal.

In its ruling on Friday, the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals’ three-judge panel stated, “We conclude that none of the information sought in the trial subpoenas was relevant to the elements of the contempt offense, nor to any affirmative defense Bannon was entitled to present at trial.”
