On Friday, the nominee from President Donald Trump to lead the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid addressed the Senate Finance Committee.
Dr. Oz discussed his plan aimed at enhancing the affordability and efficiency of healthcare for millions of Americans.
The former heart surgeon and television figure underscored the importance of reinforcing healthcare while guaranteeing its sustainability for the long term.
“We have a generational opportunity to reform our healthcare system and help individuals maintain their health for longer periods,” he stated. “That’s why President Trump is committed to valuing and protecting Medicare and Medicaid, as he believes every American should have access to the care they need and deserve. To realize this vision, CMS must collaborate with Congress to identify efficiencies that stabilize our insurance markets, making it easier and more affordable for Americans to lead healthy lives.”
Oz also expressed his backing for implementing work requirements for Medicaid beneficiaries, suggesting it would ensure aid is directed toward those most in need.
In addressing the topic of prescription drug pricing, Oz reiterated President Trump’s objective of reducing costs for both the government and American citizens.
“President Trump has made this abundantly clear. We aim to lower medication expenses for our government and for the American public, including co-payments. We are not achieving this currently. We can do much better,” Oz remarked.
When asked about a Republican budget strategy that might affect healthcare coverage, Oz acknowledged he hadn’t examined the details but assured lawmakers he does not want children to lose their insurance coverage.
Oz subsequently advocated for Medicare drug price negotiations, emphasizing his commitment to exploring all avenues for cost reduction.
“I will examine, as the president has directed me, every possible method to reduce drug prices. There are numerous options available, and I feel compelled to pursue each one of them.”
With the Republican majority in the Senate, Oz is anticipated to receive confirmation and oversee Medicare, Medicaid, and various health programs that support over 150 million individuals across the United States.
