E. Jean Carroll Considering Filing Third Lawsuit Against Trump
An attorney representing journalist E. Jean Carroll is exploring the possibility of filing a third lawsuit against former President Donald Trump for remarks he made over Memorial Day weekend, as reported by Newsweek.
Trump brought up Carroll in a post on Truth Social on Monday.
“Happy Memorial Day to All, including the Human Scum that is working so hard to destroy our Once Great Country, & to the Radical Left, Trump Hating Federal Judge in New York that presided over, get this, TWO separate trials, that awarded a woman, who I never met before (a quick handshake at a celebrity event, 25 years ago, doesn’t count!), 91 MILLION DOLLARS for ‘DEFAMATION,'” Trump stated on Monday.
Attorney Roberta Kaplan confirmed to Newsweek that she is considering another lawsuit against Trump.
“We have said several times since the last jury verdict in January that all options were on the table. And that remains true today. All options are on the table,” Kaplan said in a statement.
Carroll, a former Elle advice columnist, has already won two lawsuits against Trump.
In January, a federal jury ordered Trump to pay damages to Carroll for allegedly damaging her reputation as a credible journalist after she accused him in 2019 of raping her nearly three decades ago.
Trump posted a $91.63 million bond in the case in March.
In May 2023, Trump was ordered to pay Carroll $5 million in damages after being found guilty of sexually abusing her.
Trump is appealing both verdicts.
Judge Juan Merchan is overseeing Trump’s criminal trial in New York.
