Democrats are facing harsh mockery for their use of black paddles to protest President Trump’s speech to Congress—social media users are comparing the act to a sketch from Saturday Night Live (SNL).

Even commentators from the left are joining in the ridicule, likening the Democrat lawmakers’ display to a scene from a “Brazilian steakhouse” or a bingo night at a retirement home.
Arriving at the joint session of Congress on Tuesday night with the black paddles emblazoned with phrases like “false” and “Musk Steals,” the Democratic lawmakers repeatedly waved their signs during Trump’s address, expressing their disagreement with the President.
Left-leaning MSNBC anchors and comedians did not hold back in their criticism of the stunt.
“Why are Democrats just sitting there? The signs aren’t making an impact. It resembles bingo! Sigh,” MSNBC host Symone Sanders-Townsend remarked on X.
On his CBS show, “The Late Show,” host Stephen Colbert also lampooned the protest, sarcastically suggesting that “Democrats are preparing to fight back with their little paddles.”
“That’s how you protect democracy: by quietly protesting,” Colbert added. “Or maybe bidding on an antique tea set. It was hard to gauge what was happening.”
He then brandished his own black paddle with a message for the Democrats: “Try taking action.”
Social media users, including the official CPAC account on X, chimed in with their opinions regarding the incident.
“The Democrats look ridiculous. Whoever suggested those bingo signs deserves to be reprimanded,” commented one X user.
“They genuinely thought they would achieve something with that paddle fiasco… LOL This reminds me of when my 5-year-old son sulks and sticks his tongue out at me when he’s upset because I didn’t allow him to have candy,” added another user.
