Emerson College Poll Shows Trump Ahead of Biden by 3 Points

A recent national poll conducted by Emerson College and released on Thursday reveals that former President Donald Trump is leading over President Joe Biden. Biden’s polling rate has dropped since early April.

The poll indicates that Trump is ahead of Biden by a margin of 46% to 43%, with Biden’s support decreasing by 2 percentage points since the previous Emerson poll in early April. Trump’s numbers remained steady at 46%, as reported by The Hill.

The Emerson College Polling survey was conducted from April 16-17 among 1,308 registered voters with a margin of error of 2.6 percent.

According to the poll, 12% of voters stated that they were undecided. However, when pushed to choose a candidate, the numbers shifted to 51% for Trump and 48% for Biden, maintaining Trump’s 3-point lead.

When independent candidates were factored in, both Trump and Biden experienced a decrease in support, with Trump falling to 44% and Biden to 40%.

Among the independent candidates, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. garnered 8% of supporters, with 8% still undecided, and 1% supporting Cornel West.

Issues such as immigration and the economy were highlighted as crucial concerns among voters.

A majority of respondents, 70%, expressed that they believe the cost of living is increasing. Those who hold this belief are more inclined to support Trump over Biden, according to Spencer Kimball, the executive director of Emerson College Polling.

“Voters who perceive a rise in the cost of living favor Trump over Biden, 56% to 32%,” Kimball noted. “However, those who feel that the cost of living is stable or decreasing support Biden over Trump, 94% to 6% and 67% to 18%, respectively.”

Additionally, polled voters shared their opinions on the Israel-Hamas conflict, with 44% indicating that they feel they are not receiving all the relevant information about the situation.

“There is a notable divergence in perceptions regarding the accuracy of war information,” remarked Kimball. “Biden leads among those who trust that they are receiving accurate information (53% to 36%), while Trump leads among skeptics (53% to 38%). Those who are unsure are divided, with 44% leaning toward Trump and 42% toward Biden.”
