Reports have stated that 23-year-old Chad Richards claims that he shot his girlfriend Kara Welsh, 21, after allegedly ripping her gun away because he felt threatened following a heated argument on August 30th.
“The defendant stated that he shot (the victim) with the handgun because he feared for his life,” the recently filed criminal complaint reads.
Richards claimed that Welsh had gone and grabbed a gun from her nightstand so he wrestled her to take the gun away from her and shot her in self-defense.
However, the complaint shows that the former wrestler fired approximately eight shots at Welsh while she was in a fetal position.
White Water police found Richards crying outside their apartments as Welsh was “lying on the floor in a pool of blood.”
Officials later confirmed that Richards had fired a total of 11 shots, eight of which hit Welsh in the torso and neck.
Richards has been charged with first-degree intentional homicide, disorderly conduct while armed, and endangering safety by the use of a dangerous weapon.
He is being held at the Walworth County Jail with a $1 million bond.
