A 71-year-old defendant from the January 6th events has stated to a U.K. news outlet that she has formally declined President Donald Trump’s pardon.

On Monday, Trump granted commutations to 14 individuals involved in the January 6th protests.
Pamela Hemphill, who pled guilty and received a sentence of 60 years for her involvement in the U.S. Capitol demonstration on January 6th, 2021, told the BBC that she refuses to accept a pardon from Trump.
“Accepting a pardon would only disrespect the Capitol police officers, undermine the rule of law, and, above all, harm our nation,” she remarked. “I pleaded guilty because I was guilty, and accepting a pardon would only perpetuate their gaslighting and false narrative.”
Once referred to as the “MAGA granny” by online users, Hemphill expressed her concerns about the Trump administration’s efforts to “rewrite history,” stating her desire to remain uninvolved in such actions.
“We were wrong that day; we broke the law – there should be no pardons,” she asserted in an interview with BBC World Service’s Newsday program.
Now identifying as an “ex-MAGA granny,” the 71-year-old has been vocal on social media about her newfound opposition to Trump, criticizing the former president’s pardons for nearly all individuals involved in the January 6th actions.
“I refuse to be intimidated by MAGA any longer; those who called my Probation Officer to try to get me in trouble ended up backfiring, thinking I’d stop speaking out – it only boosts my confidence to persist! I will decline a pardon from felon Trump! @AdamKinzinger,” Hemphill tweeted.
In 2023, Trump reacted to a social media post pointing out that Hemphill would face a longer prison term than Hunter Biden, remarking “HORRIBLE!”
“Don’t use me as a victim of January 6,” Hemphill replied, according to Newsweek.
Hemphill mentioned she had been in conversation with a group of Proud Boys on the day of the events, which led her to follow them to the U.S. Capitol. She also live-streamed the rally on YouTube.
