Ex-Wall Street Banker Launches Primary Campaign Against AOC

A former Wall Street banker recently filed to run in the Democrat primary against three-term progressive Democrat Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez in New York’s 14th Congressional District, framing it as a “referendum on common sense.”

Martin Dolan, 66, has officially launched a campaign committee to challenge AOC, who is known for being part of the radical left congressional group called the “Squad.” This primary on June 25 would mark the first time AOC has faced an intra-party challenge in four years.

In an interview with Bloomberg, Dolan criticized AOC for being too progressive, even by New York City standards, pointing to her views on immigration and diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts following George Floyd’s death.

“There’s been nobody who’s more in favor of immigration than AOC, and there’s been no worse thing that’s happened in New York in the last year,” Dolan told Bloomberg.

Despite facing tough odds, Dolan remains unfazed. AOC won 74.6% of the vote in her last primary challenge in 2020, has $5.7 million in cash on hand compared to his $58,000, $55,000 of which he loaned to himself. He also needs to gather enough signatures to secure a spot on the ballot.

“I call it a referendum on common sense,” he said.
