Following her confirmation as U.S. Secretary of Agriculture, Brooke Rollins announced that the Trump administration is emphasizing initiatives to reduce egg prices.

The cost of eggs has soared, hitting an unprecedented average of $4.95 for Grade A eggs across the United States, attributed to the ongoing bird flu outbreak and the culling of chickens during the Biden administration, in addition to inflationary pressures.
Rollins, confirmed on Thursday, shared that she was promptly briefed on the avian flu situation and was tasked with addressing high egg prices immediately upon taking office.
“My very first briefing – I think I was voted on around noon yesterday, I was sworn in around 3, took a few pictures, and then I went straight into a briefing on avian flu and egg prices with the team at USDA,” Rollins said in a Friday interview with Breitbart News.
“We’re considering all available measures, including biosecurity protocols,” she continued. “With the potential cancellation of DEI programs, it’s essential to identify additional funding for our farmers to safeguard against the avian flu.”
“Other countries utilize vaccines for their egg-laying hens and face none of these issues,” Rollins noted. “This could be a complex solution due to trade impacts. However, considering Canada’s significantly lower egg prices and their approach, we need to examine it closely.”
During the conversation, Rollins commended President Trump’s promise to combat inflation to assist families facing financial difficulties.
“In many of his interviews and campaign appearances, he discussed the consequences of Joe Biden’s policies on inflation and how it has affected mothers trying to put food on the table,” she remarked. “As a mother of four teenagers, I understand this struggle firsthand.”
Rollins also criticized the Biden administration’s approach to managing the avian flu, highlighting that the previous administration opted to depopulate chickens as a method of control.
“We need to speed up the repopulation process after the Biden administration’s USDA depopulated – eliminated – millions of egg-layers,” Rollins explained. “Establishing swift support for those farmers and their flocks is crucial. While there are other measures to implement, progress will not be instant.”
“It’s likely that we can start to alleviate this issue in the upcoming weeks, more probably in the coming months. We’ve initiated discussions with other food producers across the nation, but it’s vital for everyone to understand that there isn’t a simple fix. Nevertheless, we can adopt strategies to address this not only for the upcoming quarter but also for the next decade and beyond to prevent future occurrences.”
