Secretary of State Marco Rubio had a heated exchange with Poland’s Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski, labeling him ungrateful for the support of Elon Musk’s Starlink after Sikorski mentioned that Ukraine may need alternatives.

The discussion unfolded through a series of posts on X, instigated by Musk being accused of “only criticizing Ukraine but not Putin.”
Musk replied, “my Starlink system is the backbone of the Ukrainian army. Their entire front line would collapse if I turned it off. I am disgusted by years of slaughter in a stalemate that Ukraine will inevitably lose. Anyone who cares and understands genuinely wants the meat grinder to stop. PEACE NOW!!!”
After Musk’s remark, Sikorski responded, accusing Musk of threatening to withdraw Starlink support from Ukrainian troops.
“Starlinks for Ukraine are funded by the Polish Digitization Ministry at a cost of around $50 million annually. Aside from the ethics of threatening a victim of aggression, if SpaceX turns out to be an unreliable provider, we will need to find alternative suppliers,” he stated.
Rubio interjected after Sikorski’s statement, dismissing his claims as “Just making things up.”
“No one has issued any threats regarding cutting Ukraine off from Starlink. They should be thankful because without Starlink, Ukraine would have lost this war long ago, and Russian forces would be at the Polish border right now.”
In parallel, the U.S. has decided to suspend intelligence sharing with Ukraine to pressure Kyiv into negotiating a resolution to the conflict, including revoking access to specific satellite imagery.
Musk concurred with Rubio, stating “What Secretary Rubio says is absolutely correct.”
The public feud with Sikorski highlights Musk and Rubio’s alignment, contrasting with reports of tension last week between the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) leader and the Secretary of State.
President Donald Trump addressed the situation on Saturday, asserting the two have a positive relationship, declaring that any claims to the contrary are false. He also commented on media attempts to create discord between himself and Musk during a February interview.
“It’s just so obvious. They’re so bad at it. I used to think they were good at it,” Trump remarked in February, accompanied by Musk. “They’re actually not good because if they were, I wouldn’t be president; no one in history has received more negative publicity than me.”
