Former President Donald Trump, along with two of his employees, is facing additional charges in the criminal case over the retention of sensitive government records at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate. Trump now faces a total of 40 charges, up from the original 37 counts he was indicted on last month. The new charges include attempting to delete security footage at Mar-a-Lago after receiving a grand jury subpoena for the videos. Carlos De Oliveira, another Trump employee, has been added as a defendant in the case and is charged with obstruction and making false statements to the FBI. The indictment alleges that De Oliveira conspired with Trump and another employee, Walt Nauta, to hide sensitive government documents. Additionally, the new indictment claims that Trump retained one more document containing national defense information than previously listed. This document is believed to be the one referenced in the original indictment, where Trump bragged about a “plan of attack” against another country. Overall, Trump is now charged with 32 counts of unlawful retention of national defense information.
