A judge determined on Tuesday that Atlanta District Attorney Fani Willis must grant a conservative watchdog group access to all her communications with Special Counsel Jack Smith and a House committee.

Willis, the lead prosecutor involved with President-elect Donald Trump, was ruled to have breached open-records laws by Fulton County Superior Court Judge Robert McBurney after failing to respond to a request made in August 2023 by Judicial Watch in Fulton County, according to the organization.

The accountability group filed a complaint in March after being denied access to communications between the House committee investigating the January 6th, 2021, Capitol incident, the Democratic prosecutor’s office, and the special counsel.

On Tuesday, the state judge declared Willis in default, giving her five business days to find and supply Judicial Watch with the requested documents.

“Fani Willis is truly extraordinary. In our 30 years of experience, this is the first occasion where a government official has been found in default for failing to appear in court concerning an open records lawsuit,” remarked Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton.

“Judicial Watch anticipates receiving any documents related to the collusion between the Biden administration and Nancy Pelosi’s Congress in her unprecedented and compromised ‘get-Trump’ prosecution.”

This court ruling marks another chapter in the ongoing controversies surrounding the frustrated district attorney. The 53-year-old Willis is pursuing the last legal action against Trump before he assumes office once more in January, relating to accusations of Trump’s interference in Georgia’s 2020 election.

Following Trump’s reelection last month, Smith has already dismissed two federal cases against the incoming president-elect, and a judge has postponed Trump’s sentencing in the alleged “hush-money” case indefinitely.

Willis, who enlisted attorney Nathan Wade to lead the prosecution against Trump, has faced significant backlash over the past year for her previously undisclosed romantic involvement with Wade, which she initially sought to conceal from the public.

The court is set to review Judicial Watch’s request for legal fees related to its successful document request on December 20th.
