FBI Director Kash Patel, confirmed by the U.S. Senate on February 20th, aims to improve the tactical skills and combat readiness of FBI agents.

In his inaugural conference call with the FBI’s 55 field office supervisors, Patel proposed the idea of engaging UFC trainers to enhance the self-defense and martial arts capabilities of federal agents.
This suggestion came after Patel reviewed the current training protocols within the FBI.
His interest was encouraged by conservative commentator and former Secret Service agent Dan Bongino, who was appointed as the FBI’s deputy director by President Donald Trump, motivating him to adopt a new training approach.
Trump himself is a known fan of the UFC, holding a close friendship with Dana White, the organization’s CEO and President.
However, the bureau has yet to comment on these developments, and a spokesperson for the UFC indicated they were “not aware of any information regarding UFC and FBI training.”
The day before Trump’s inauguration in January, White participated in a victory rally in Washington, D.C., heralding Trump and expressing enthusiasm for the upcoming administration’s initiatives.
“This guy is a winner. I say this consistently. He’s the toughest, most resilient person I’ve met, and nothing will dissuade him from fighting for the country he loves,” White stated. “He truly embodies what it means to be American. We are the toughest, most resilient people on Earth, and when we unite, nothing can stop us.”
Though Trump has not attended any UFC events since reclaiming the White House due to his busy schedule, he did make appearances at this month’s Super Bowl and Daytona 500.
Since his swearing-in, Patel has already initiated significant changes, including the transfer of nearly 1,500 FBI staff from Washington, D.C., to various field offices nationwide.
During his confirmation hearing, Patel vowed to restore public confidence in the FBI.
A 2023 NBC News poll indicated that “37% of registered voters surveyed have a positive view of the FBI, while 35% hold a negative view. The agency’s reputation has declined since October 2018, when 52% of Americans viewed the FBI positively and only 18% negatively.”
Patel also emphasized his commitment to drastically reducing crime statistics, stating, “We cannot allow 100,000 rapes next year, nor 100,000 drug overdoses from Chinese fentanyl and Mexican heroin, or 17,000 homicides.”
“Those figures must be halved immediately,” Patel asserted, “and through this, the public will rebuild their trust in the FBI and law enforcement.”
Despite these initiatives, some FBI agents have expressed skepticism about the UFC training plan, labeling it as “surreal” and “wacky.”
“The FBI already has physical altercation training in place. If Kash Patel believes it should be augmented, turning to Donald Trump’s best friend from the UFC is not the solution,” commented a former Justice Department official.
