Brad Spafford, 36, was discovered to possess over “150 homemade explosive devices, an illegal short-barreled rifle, and bomb-making materials” at his Norfolk farm, prosecutors reported, according to Court Watch.
Spafford was arrested outside his farm on December 17th, based on a criminal complaint alleging he had an unregistered short-barreled rifle, as stated by Court Watch.
Investigators who searched the 20-acre property reportedly found the bulk of the 150 explosive devices in a detached garage, according to court documents filed by the Joint Terrorism Task Force.
Moreover, additional pipe bombs were uncovered later in Spafford’s bedroom, stored in a backpack adorned with a patch resembling a hand grenade and the phrase #NoLivesMatter, prosecutors claimed.
Prosecutors also alleged that Spafford was in possession of a jar containing hexamethylene triperoxide diamine, or HMTD, a highly unstable compound linked to significant terrorist activities, including the 2005 London public transport bombing.
Additionally, a notebook with recipes for explosives was found on the property, as per the court documents.
Reports also indicated that Spafford utilized an image of President Joe Biden for target practice at his shooting range and allegedly expressed to a police informant his desire to “revive political assassination,” according to Court Watch.
The New York Times noted that the informant was a neighbor who secretly recorded the conversation with Spafford.
During a bond hearing, prosecutors highlighted that the volume of materials found at the residence suggested that Spafford was likely planning “an operation that he would not be able to execute alone,” as reported by the Smithfield Times.
His bond has been established at $25,000, contingent upon Spafford remaining under electronic surveillance and confined to his mother’s residence.
