In a recent interview with Fox News host Sean Hannity on Wednesday, Trump stated he intends to have a “substantial discussion very soon” regarding the agency, expressing a preference for states to manage their own challenges.
The president criticized FEMA, asserting that it has failed to perform its duties adequately over the past four years and often obstructs states’ responses.
He specifically referenced FEMA’s handling of the severe hurricane that impacted North Carolina last year.
“I love Oklahoma, but you know what?” he inquired. “If they experience a tornado or something similar, let Oklahoma manage it. … and then the federal government can provide funds. FEMA is hindering everything, and the Democrats have actually used FEMA not to assist North Carolina.”
The president is scheduled to visit North Carolina on Friday to assess recovery operations.
