Florida Governor DeSantis Refuses to Enact Inflation Reduction Act, Hindering Benefit Access
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has rejected millions of dollars in funding from the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA), including rebates for energy-efficient purchases. DeSantis’ refusal is considered the most prominent blockade by any Republican governor against President Joe Biden’s economic agenda. The IRA allows governors to block certain programs, potentially diminishing the political impact of the legislation. DeSantis also vetoed funding for energy-efficient appliances, pollution control, and the Solar for All program. The Biden administration is hopeful that Florida will ultimately accept the funds, as some state offices and the legislature had approved them before DeSantis’ veto. However, Florida has accepted other funds from the legislation for various purposes.
