Florida Lieutenant Governor Discusses Preparing for Haitian Immigrants with Newsmax
Florida Lt. Gov. Jeanette Nuñez disclosed to Newsmax that the state is preparing for an influx of immigrants from Haiti amidst a surge of violence in the country.
CNN reported that recent attacks by criminal gangs in Haiti have disrupted public life, leading to shortages of basic necessities like food, water, and fuel. The violence has targeted government buildings, police stations, and other public spaces in Port-au-Prince.
During an interview on “Wake Up America”, Nuñez stated that Florida has been on alert since January 2023, when Governor Ron DeSantis issued an executive order to safeguard the state.
She mentioned that Florida has deployed resources and personnel, including marine and air patrols, to address the potential risks associated with the situation. Nuñez emphasized the state’s proactive approach to protect citizens given the challenges posed by illegal immigration trends.
She expressed concerns about the situation in Haiti, highlighting that criminals have been released from jails, and criticized the federal government’s response under President Joe Biden as inadequate.
