Former CBS journalist scheduled to address Judiciary Committee hearing after termination
Catherine Herridge — the fired CBS reporter whose files were seized by the network — is set to speak at a House Judiciary Committee hearing next week, as reported by the New York Post.
An insider revealed that the veteran investigative journalist will provide testimony about her departure from CBS at the upcoming hearing, which is titled “Fighting for a Free Press: Protecting Journalists and their Sources” and is scheduled for April 11 at 9:30 a.m.
Mary Cavallaro, SAG-AFTRA chief news & broadcast officer, is also expected to address the committee about the union’s negotiations with CBS regarding Herridge’s confidential materials following her termination.
Additionally, former CBS News reporter Sharyl Attkisson will offer her insights at the hearing, shedding light on her own experiences at the network.
CBS has not indicated whether they will send a representative to the hearing, as demanded by Judiciary Chair Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, who sought information about the seizure of Herridge’s files before March 1.
Herridge was among the employees let go by CBS parent company Paramount Global as part of a larger downsizing effort that affected 800 individuals. She had joined CBS in 2019 and had disagreements with executives over her reporting on the Hunter Biden laptop story.
Both Herridge and Attkisson are expected to address the importance of the press shield law — which safeguards journalists and their sources from government interference — during the hearing.
In a high-profile First Amendment case, Herridge has appealed a judge’s decision to hold her in contempt for refusing to disclose the identity of a source for an investigative article she wrote while working at Fox News.
