Former Dancer and Dance Teacher Applaud Shen Yun’s Beautiful Dancing

EDMONTON, Canada—Dance at its peak is a miracle of the human body. Dancers who come and experience Shen Yun Performing Arts get the chance to learn and be inspired by world class artists.

“Their legs were up by their heads. Their balance and how well they all worked together, it was really impressive,” said Pearl Douglas, a realtor and former ballet dancer.

Shen Yun is based in New York and its artists are trained in classical Chinese dance.

“It is beautiful to watch. You can’t just watch one specific person. It’s the whole experience that you see on the stage and it’s really beautiful,” said Ms. Douglas.

Apart from Classical Chinese dance, Shen Yun’s artists are also skilled in several of China ethnic folk dances styles.

“I actually love the traditional dances the most. They were my favorite. To be able to see that in a different style of dance, it was beautiful,” expressed Ms. Douglas.

The costumes are designed by Shen Yun’s Artistic Director, D.F. Each costume is tailored to an individual dancer and all the details are hand sewn.

“The colors, the background, just how the whole stage lit up. The colors and the costumes were the most beautiful to me,” said Ms. Douglas.

Dance teacher Marina Perekrest was also in the audience.

As a dance teacher, Ms. Perekrest commented that she was impressed with “the lines, the posture” of the dancers.

Being one of the oldest dance forms in the world, many sports such as gymnastics and acrobatics actually originate from classical Chinese dance.

“[The] dance was great. I didn’t know that acrobatic elements were originally from Chinese culture,” said Ms. Perekrest.

Shen Yun puts on an all-new production each year. With 5,000 years of civilization to draw from, there is no telling what Shen Yun will feature in each new season.

“It’s a great traditional dance because every dancer should start from basic tradition. And it’s a great experience to learn about some new culture and their tradition to inspire and then to experiment with it. Because it’s so great to learn about tradition and I’m happy that I had a chance to see it,” commented Ms. Perekrest.

Shen Yun has eight companies touring around the world, and each company has its own live orchestra. The orchestra features traditional Chinese instruments such as the pipa and erhu.

“The music was just gorgeous. And the instruments and live performance, that was great. Thank you,” said Ms. Perekrest.
