Former Obama Administration Staff Raise Concerns About Biden’s Age and Health
Former aides of Barack Obama are expressing concerns about President Joe Biden’s advanced age, describing it as “a very real issue” due to how “frail” and “mumbly” he appears compared to when they last worked with him during his vice presidency.
“When you listen to Joe Biden speak, he often comes across as frail and seems more fragile than he did in 2019 and 2020,” remarked Jon Favreau, the primary speechwriter for former President Obama, on an episode of the “Pod Save America” podcast.
Favreau noted that the 81-year-old president’s voice sounds frail, he shuffles more due to arthritis in his back, and he appears “mumbly.”
Referencing polls that indicate about 80% of Americans have concerns about Biden’s age, Favreau emphasized that the White House needs to directly address the issue, as his decline is evident to voters.
Despite his recent stumbles and verbal slip-ups, Favreau suggested that Biden needs to increase his public appearances rather than decrease them in order to reassure voters about his ability to serve another term.
In a separate interview, former Obama senior adviser Dan Pfeiffer also expressed worries about Biden’s age.
Pfeiffer stated that it is a significant issue that must be addressed if Biden hopes to secure re-election. He emphasized that reassuring voters about his age should be the top strategic priority for Biden’s campaign.
David Axelrod, Obama’s former campaign strategist, advised Biden to be authentic and referenced a past incident from 1979 to illustrate the importance of staying true to oneself.
Axelrod also mentioned reports of anonymous White House sources discussing Biden’s angry behavior behind the scenes and suggested that the president could use his temper to his advantage by confronting former President Donald Trump with memorable Biden-esque phrases that could go viral online.
