Following tradition, after the oath-taking of President Donald Trump, he and First Lady Melania escorted Biden to the U.S. Capitol’s east front.

Biden and Jill climbed aboard Marine One for a flight over the city where they have resided for the past four years.

As they prepared for their flight over the city they’ve called home, Biden and Jill boarded Marine One.

The Bidens headed to Joint Base Andrews, where Biden shared a brief farewell address with his supporters.

The former first family will subsequently board presidential transport to their next destination, Santa Ynez, in Santa Barbara County, California, where they are expected to stay at a private residence.

Former Vice President Kamala Harris and her spouse, Doug Emhoff, were also spotted leaving the Capitol in a black SUV.

Biden has not disclosed much about his future plans, particularly his retirement agenda. One potential undertaking is fundraising for a presidential library, which is rumored to be situated in his native Delaware.

“I’m less concerned about what my legacy is,” Biden told “The View” in September 2024. “Although I’m leaving, I’m not going away, because there are so many other things I want to pursue, including the Biden Institute on foreign policy and the Biden Institute in Delaware on domestic policy, to continue the initiatives we’ve started. And I believe we’ll accomplish it.” He referenced the University of Pennsylvania’s Biden Center for Diplomacy and Global Engagement think tank and the University of Delaware’s Biden Institute, both founded in 2018.
