Miami Mayor Francis Suarez has suspended his bid for the presidency and dropped out of the 2024 race after failing to qualify for the first Republican debate. He is the first candidate to drop out of the crowded GOP field. He campaigned as the only Hispanic candidate and emphasized his experience leading Miami. Suarez had previously been critical of former President Donald Trump but had largely avoided direct criticism during his campaign. He also faced questions about his work for a developer and stumbled when asked about the Uyghurs. Despite claiming he had qualified for the debate, senior Republican National Committee advisers said he had not met the criteria.
