Georgia Medicaid Program Experiences Delays in Implementation of Work Requirement
Georgia launched a Medicaid program called Georgia Pathways to Coverage that requires recipients to meet a work requirement. However, experts and advocates claim that the state is doing little to promote or enroll people in the program. The Georgia Department of Community Health has only approved 265 applications so far, despite projecting that up to 100,000 people could benefit from the program. Critics argue that the program’s slow start is due to the extra burden of submitting and verifying work hours. Meanwhile, Georgia is removing tens of thousands of people from its Medicaid rolls, potentially including those who could be eligible for Pathways. The Biden administration has already tried to revoke Georgia’s Medicaid plan and will closely monitor its progress.
