Google Accused of Interfering in US Elections 41 Times by Watchdog
Media Research Center, a conservative watchdog, released a report on Monday detailing 41 instances over the past 16 years where Google has interfered with U.S. elections.
In a 19-page report, MRC expressed concern about Google’s increasing impact on democracy.
“Google has admitted to using its resources to promote leftist values and influence elections,” stated the report’s executive summary from MRC.
Brent Bozell, the founder and President of MRC, emphasized, “Google’s deliberate effort to interfere in U.S. elections for the past 16 years is a major threat to American democracy.”
MRC’s report outlined each instance of election interference, starting with the censorship of Hillary Clinton-supporting bloggers in 2008.
The 41st instance highlighted in the report was regarding Google’s Gemini platform refusing to address questions that could be damaging to Joe Biden.
Google responded to the report by stating that the complaints were baseless and inaccurate.
MRC also provided three recommendations:
- House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., should initiate an investigation into Google;
- State legislatures should determine if Google is a common carrier and take steps to prevent viewpoint discrimination;
- Americans should consider alternatives to Google products, such as Google Search.
“Google’s influence on American elections has been evident since 2008 and continues to this day,” MRC concluded.
