The House Judiciary Committee has launched an investigation into the Manhattan District Attorney’s office after Donald Trump’s hush money verdict.

Congress held their first hearing after Trump was found guilty on all 34 charges against him in the New York hush money trial on Thursday.
During the hearing, House Republicans argued that District Attorney Alvin Bragg did not have the authority to bring a case of election interference to be heard in a state courtroom.
“District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s decision to pursue charges against former President Trump for alleged violations of federal campaign finance laws marks a significant deviation from this established legal framework,” Trey Trainor, a Commissioner at the Federal Election Commission, who was a witness at the hearing, said.
House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) stated that the case’s key witness, Michael Cohen, is a proven liar.
“Michael Cohen has lied to Congress; he’s lied to the FBI and he’s lied to court. It’s not often you can lie to all three branches of government and become a star witness in the prosecution of a former President,” said Jordan.
Bragg and prosecutor Matthew Colangelo will testify before the committee next month after the former president receives his sentencing. Trump will be sentenced on July 11th, just days before he is set to be selected as the 2024 nominee at the Republican National Convention.
