GOP Members Divided on Pursuing Biden Impeachment
Several House Republicans, including 18 lawmakers from districts won by President Joe Biden in the 2020 election, have stated that there is not enough evidence to impeach Biden. They believe that impeachment should not be a political matter and that it should only proceed if there is enough factual evidence to warrant it. Some Republicans have called for Biden’s impeachment over issues such as the border crisis and his son Hunter’s involvement in influence-peddling. House Speaker Kevin McCarthy has also mentioned the possibility of an impeachment inquiry into Biden, although he later clarified that he had not confirmed such an inquiry. While some Republicans express openness to an inquiry, they emphasize that it should proceed through due process and be based on solid evidence of high crimes and misdemeanors. They argue that if there is substantial evidence of wrongdoing, impeachment is necessary, but a formal inquiry should not be pursued prematurely.
