GOP Senators and Speaker Johnson Discuss Ambitious Agenda with hopes for a Trump Victory

House Speaker Mike Johnson and Senate Republicans met on Wednesday to discuss Donald Trump’s potential agenda if he wins the election this November, as reported by the Hill.

Senator Ted Cruz, R-Tex., stated after the meeting, “The main focus of the discussion was on the need to have a positive, pro-growth, pro-jobs agenda centered around tax reform and regulatory reform.”

Senator John Cornyn, R-Tex., mentioned that Johnson emphasized the importance of going beyond just tax cut extensions and proposed additional initiatives like spending cuts, regulatory reforms, enhanced defense spending, and reductions in mandatory government spending to address the federal deficit.

Senator Cornyn also brought up the idea of addressing mandatory spending on programs like Social Security, Medicare, and interest payments on the federal debt to better control government expenditures.

Senator James Lankford, R-Okla., emphasized the need for Republicans to be prepared and start discussing key issues like tax policies in anticipation of the upcoming election.
