New York Governor Kathy Hochul has unexpectedly rescheduled a meeting with 47th President Donald Trump, following an announcement from U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi that the Department of Justice is suing New York, along with the state governor and attorney general.

The DOJ is claiming that the officials are hindering the Trump administration’s efforts to enforce deportations.

As reported by the New York Post, Governor Hochul had intended to meet with Trump for lunch to discuss various issues, but opted to push it to the following week at the last moment.

Nonetheless, sources have indicated that Trump and Hochul have tentatively agreed to meet next week during her visit to Washington, D.C., for the National Governors Association gathering.

“New York has prioritized illegal aliens at the expense of American citizens,” U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi stated during the announcement regarding the lawsuit.

“This needs to stop. It ends today.”

The lawsuit is also challenging New York’s “Green Light Law.”

“The Driver’s License Access and Privacy Act, known as the ‘Green Light Law’… permits all New Yorkers aged 16 and over to apply for a basic non-commercial driver’s license or learner’s permit, irrespective of their citizenship or immigration status. A Social Security number is not required for application,” as detailed on New York’s DMV website.

Implemented in 2019, this law prohibits inquiries into an individual’s immigration status and restricts the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) from sharing personal information with federal authorities and law enforcement, except under a judicial order.

Hochul’s administration quickly responded to the lawsuit, branding it as “drastic.”

“Fact: Our existing regulations permit federal immigration agents to access any DMV database with a judicial warrant. This is a sensible approach that enjoys broad support among New Yorkers,” Hochul’s statement read.

“However, I will not allow federal agents, or any private actors, unrestricted access to the personal data of New Yorkers in the DMV system, including vulnerable populations like young drivers.”

This development follows the DOJ’s request to a federal judge to eliminate sanctuary policies in Chicago, asserting that local and state officials inhibit the Trump administration’s deportation efforts.

“As you are aware, we filed a lawsuit against Illinois,” Bondi highlighted on Wednesday.

“New York ignored this… So now, it’s your turn.”

Tom Homan, Trump’s border chief, was also scheduled to meet with Mayor Eric Adams (D-N.Y.) on Thursday morning, seeking his commitment to cooperate with deportation efforts.

“Homan is dissatisfied and feels there hasn’t been enough progress,” disclosed a source familiar with the meeting.

“He is looking for immediate results and does not wish to wait until next January. The mayor has emergency powers.”

Previously, Homan praised Adams for his collaboration with the Trump administration regarding the deportation of undocumented individuals with criminal records.

“He is fully committed to tackling public safety threats presented by those who are here illegally and assisting in locating missing children,” Homan stated on WABC 770 AM’s “Cats & Cosby Show.”

“I hope we can reach an agreement where his officers will assist mine in removing these public safety threats, particularly gangs like Tren de Aragua that are causing turmoil in New York,” he added.

“Let’s hope I return to D.C. Thursday night with a beneficial agreement,” he remarked, indicating he would withhold his excitement until it was confirmed.

Moreover, this cancellation of the meeting occurs after federal funding amounting to around $80 million for migrants in New York City was revoked.
