California Governor Gavin Newsom has extended an invitation to President-elect Donald Trump to visit the state and “see the devastation firsthand” caused by the wildfires currently affecting California.

In a letter released on Friday, Newsom (D-Calif.) encouraged Trump to come to Los Angeles County and witness the extensive damage from the Southern California wildfires.
“In the spirit of this great nation, we must refrain from politicizing human tragedy or spreading misinformation from the sidelines,” Newsom wrote to Trump. “Hundreds of thousands of Americans–displaced and concerned for their future–deserve to see us working together in their best interests to facilitate a swift recovery and rebuild.”
“As you prepare to take on the presidency again, I invite you to come to California to meet with those affected by these fires, view the destruction firsthand, and join me in expressing gratitude to the courageous firefighters and first responders risking their lives,” he continued.
Newsom’s invitation follows Trump’s previous criticism, in which he stated Newsom should resign as governor.
“One of the most beautiful parts of the United States is being reduced to ashes,” Trump said on Truth Social. “Gavin Newsom should resign. This is all on him!!!”
Throughout history, Trump and Newsom have frequently clashed. In 2019, Trump criticized Newsom for his management of California’s forests.
“Every year, as the fires rage and California suffers, it’s always the same thing – and then he approaches the Federal Government for $$$ help. No more. Get it together, Governor,” Trump tweeted.
