Governor Burgum Raises Concerns to Newsmax: Biden Administration Straining State Resources as They Protect the Border

North Dakota governor and potential 2024 Republican presidential candidate Doug Burgum spoke with Newsmax about the southern border crisis and his decision to send National Guard troops from his state to help. Burgum criticized the Biden administration for its apparent disregard for border security, stating that the Border Patrol does not have enough manpower, resources, infrastructure, or technology to effectively address the situation. He expressed concern about the unprecedented flow of illegal drugs and human trafficking into the country. Border crossings have increased in recent months, despite record heat levels and asylum limits. Customs and Border Protection data shows that there have been 1,789,605 encounters at the southwest land border so far in fiscal year 2023, compared to 2,378,944 encounters in fiscal year 2022. NEWSMAX, the news network on which Burgum appeared, is the fastest-growing cable news channel in America.
