Grammy-winning rapper Lil Yachty recently referred to the Black Lives Matter (BLM) movement as a “scam” during his appearance on Quenlin Blackwell’s YouTube series.

Quenlin Blackwell identifies as a social media influencer, comedian, and model.

Lil Yachty, whose real name is Miles Parks McCollum, was featured on Blackwell’s “Feeding Starving Celebrities” cooking show, where she inquired about his spending behaviors.

“You dropped $100,000 on a trip to Disney World. How much have you donated to charitable organizations? What about BLM? Since you’re all about Black empowerment?” Blackwell questioned.

McCollum promptly replied, stating, “BLM is a scam.”

“BLM was honestly a scam. They purchased mansions,” he explained, referencing how the movement’s leaders misused charitable donations to acquire properties.

Blackwell appeared taken aback by McCollum’s comments, prompting her viewers to “clip that and send it to the news.”

McCollum then jokingly asserted that Blackwell “probably wouldn’t be aware of it since you don’t care about Black individuals. You don’t keep up with Black news.”

The rapper pointed out that Blackwell has an “entirely White staff,” leading to a staff member off-camera claiming that he is a “POC,” which stands for person of color, and “gay”—to which McCollum humorously responded, “I too have a gay.”

McCollum’s remarks highlight concerns over BLM leaders who used $6 million in donations to buy a mansion in Southern California instead of investing those funds into initiatives that would benefit the Black community at large.

Furthermore, a former leader of the Greater Atlanta chapter of BLM was sentenced to 42 months in federal prison stemming from charges of money laundering and wire fraud. Sir Maejor Page, 36, who also goes by Tyree Conyers-Page, was sentenced and required to pay a $400 “special assessment fee” after his conviction.

Page utilized $450,000 from BLM donations for personal expenses, including “tailored suits, nightclub tabs, a night with a sex worker, and a mansion in Ohio.”

As BLM organization faces scrutiny over mismanagement of funds, it also revealed in May 2023 that it risks bankruptcy with an $8.5 million deficit reported for the 2022 fiscal year, even as several officials maintain high six-figure salaries.
